May 22nd Program – Level Up: One Light Made Simple with Kira Derryberry

On May 22nd, we’ll hope you join us as we welcome Kira Derryberry for her program, Level Up: One Light Made Simplesponsored by WHCC.

In this live demo program, learn how to master multiple one light set ups for studio and on location portraiture. Create dynamic images that are great for seniors, headshots, families, fashion, and more. Kira will guide you through selecting the right light modifiers for the job, learning how to see how the light falls to best flatter your  subject, and all using tools that won’t break the bank! If you’ve been an all natural light shooter until now, this is a great class to get you out of your comfort zone and into the world of creating natural looking lighting that doesn’t overwhelm. Prepare to ask questions, learn new techniques, and level up your skill set!

Kira’s Bio

KIRA DERRYBERRY, MASTER PHOTOG, CR., CPP
Kira Derryberry is a portrait photographer based in Tallahassee, FL. She’s a Master Photographer, Photographic Craftsman, Certified Professional Photographer, and a Director for the Professional Photographers of America board. Kira is an active competitor in both the state and International Print Competitions and earned silver medals in 2014 and 2015 and a Platinum medal in 2016 at IPC. Her Loan Collection Image, “The Skeptic” was featured on the March 2016 Cover of Professional Photographer Magazine along with a feature article on her work. Alongside her heavy participation in her local and state association, Kira proudly serves as a member of the board of directors for the Professional Photographers of America. Kira also shares her knowledge with her fellow photographers as a Spider Holster Ambassador and a Tether Tools Pro.

Kira got her start in photography in high school then graduated with a BA from the University of Alabama with photography as her focus. Knowing how to shoot, but not necessarily how to start a business, Kira leaned on her experience as a web designer for work, taking a job at a Tallahassee based advertising agency for 5 years before opening her studio in 2010. Since her studio opening, Kira has developed a strong client base in portraits ranging from children and families, to headshots, commercial work, and boudoir. Kira and her husband Kevin have been together since 2002, and together they have a seven year old daughter, Lucy. When not slinging a camera, she spends much of the remainder of her free time playing video games and watching bad science fiction.

Will DickeyPlease join us on Tuesday, March 27th for an exciting evening with special guest, Florida Times-Union Photojournalist Will Dickey. This special program, “An Evening with Florida Times-Union Photojournalist Will Dickey… Surveying the Artistry of His Fascinating Portrait Studies & Breathtaking Landscapes.”

Will Dickey has been a Jacksonville resident since he became a staff photographer for The Florida Times-Union in 1983. News events, environmental portraits, sports, business, digital illustrations and features are among his daily assignments for the newspaper. His work has also been featured in Water’s Edge, Florida Trend, Newsweek and Time magazines, ABC World News and National Geographic’s website.

Will has won regional and national awards for his newspaper work. But he has a special respect for nature and for the beauty of the northeast Florida landscape, especially the Timucuan Preserve and the St. Johns River.

The waterways and woods are his passion, professionally and personally, and photographing them is something of a return to his roots. He grew up in Alabama and wet his first hook as a young child, fishing alongside his father and uncles in the creeks and ponds of his hometown Chatom, north of Mobile. In high school and college (Auburn University) he developed an interest in photography and turned his camera to nature.

For the past several years, Will’s images of the First Coast landscape have been displayed in local art galleries and he is now exhibiting at area outdoor art festivals.

Check out his Landscapes, Photojournalism and Follow him on Facebook!
