JPPG President’s Message – March 2017

The year is off to a good start. Everyone enjoyed Olis Garber’s program in January. If you want to add some adventure to your photography and get some exceptional images, go with Olis on his next photographic excursion.

February’s meeting was with the internationally recognized Photoshop guru Dave Cross. I’m sure everyone who attended picked up a new tip that will help propel their workflow for years to come.

March is going to be our hands-on, shootout month. Bring your cameras because we will have several opportunities for shooting and learning: On Sunday, March 19th the world renown Canon Explorer of Light Hason Fong will be giving Jacksonville attendees individualized hands-on tips during the day program while we shoot live models and then that same evening will have an instructional presentation. You can attend just one or both classes as your schedule allows. Check our website for the upcoming details.

Our March 28th regular meeting will also be hands-on, so bring your cameras, as we will have three shooting stations with live models and instructors helping you capture headshots and family portraits in both a studio setup and an outdoor night-lit setting. It will be a night of fun and interactive learning. You will get to see and use different lighting setups with your own camera.

Everyone learns differently, some prefer to learn by reading, some by watching and some by doing. Most people learn and retain information better if they have a good mix. Over the years some of my best learning moments were unexpectedly not from the lecture but often from another classmate or while attempting to implement a concept. We hope March’s inter-active, shoot-out programs will help you learn additional skills to help you with your future success.

Let us know how JPPG can best serve you!

JPPG President’s Message – November 2016

We had a lot of great participation in our annual salon at October’s meeting. We really have some exceptionally talented photographers in our group! The judges shared some good pointers and gave everyone in attendance some insights on how to develop their eye for improving their own photography. That’s what our guild is all about.

We had a great hands-on seminar at Walter Jones park on Sunday October 30th. Everyone brought their camera and had some good one-on-one time with instructors and models and were able to get their questions answered and test some new shooting options. It’s great to learn and grow among friends and instructors who have real-world practical experience and really know their stuff. I was very happy to see our group being very well behaved, following the rules of the park and making an extended effort to leave it cleaner than we found it! Take only photos, leave only footprints!

Don’t forget to sign up for our Holiday Party December 8th. There will be lots of great awards, recognition and lots of prizes, it will be fun for everyone! Remember we are here for each other and happy to help!

Please note that our meeting date is one week later than normal due to Thanksgiving. Social time begins at 6:30pm with announcements and meeting beginning at 7:00pm. Members, don’t forget your 8×10 entry for People’s Choice. The themes for November are Landscape/Architecture (Non-Living) and Portrait. You may enter into one or both!

Now, a few words from Gina!

First and foremost, thank you for considering me as a speaker for your event. My name is Gina Barca. I am a creative entrepreneur, photographer and designer.

I founded Barca Designs in 2009 shortly after obtaining my Degree in Graphic Design from the International Academy of Design and Technology. My background in design equipped me with a unique set of skills as a photographer. An innate passion for branding and marketing inspired me to begin helping others not only build and grow their businesses but THRIVE!

“A {BRAND} New Year” evolved from my own journey as a creative entreprenuer, specifically how I recently transformed my brand in just ONE year. Through this process I have developed a system for helping others discover and define their brand in five steps. The program provides fundamentals of branding and marketing as well as how to use social media effectively for business.

Through my involvement with the Professional Photographers of America, Florida Professional Photographers and my local guild the Professional Photographers Guild of Palm Beach.  I have seen exponetial growth as a photographer and business owner. I believe that it is my duty to give back to those organizations and become a larger part of the photographic community. It is very rewarding to be able to give back while I pursue my personal goals of achieving my Florida Service Award and Photographic Craftsman Degree.

I am excited for the opportunity to share “A {BRAND} New Year” with you.

Not a JPPG Member? No Problem! You are welcome to attend and the cost is only $25/event. You may pay in advance (below) or at the door.
