Fall 2015 Salon Competition Results

Our Fall Salon (image competition) was held on September 22nd. Thank you to all who entered as we know how nervous we all get when entering. And Congratulations to all who merited and those who placed! Please see the list of our winners from each category below and congratulate them next time you see them!

This salon, we had four esteemed judges who spent the afternoon judging all the images and then during the meeting, discussed the score and every image that was entered. We’ve received great feedback from our Members on this method because it provides so much more education than just watching and listening to the judges score.

We’d like to thank Joe & Mary Jean Campanellie from Palm Coast, Pepito from Tampa, and our very own Susan Michael for judging all the prints for us.

We had a great response with the rotating screen that our Salon Chairman MJ set up with lots of ooooohs and ahhhhhhs. Also, he has yet another surprise for our salon next year!

There were 60 prints entered of which 28 of the images merited. We had 3 people that entered for the first time, and Keith Bartholomew was one of the people.  He Placed 3 times and had a Best of Show.  That was awesome for a first timer! Congratulations, Keith!

About Nellie:

Nellie Quiros, is a Portrait Photographer who specializes in Glamour, Boudoir and Maternity.  She and her husband Claudio own Felicity Images, llc. The Premier Boudoir Photography Studio of Vero Beach and the Treasure Coast.

After many years in the medical field and then administration, Nellie knew in 2008 when the opportunity presented itself that she wanted to be a Professional Photographer. Since then she has quickly grown in her field and has received the distinguished designation of Certified Professional Photographer. She is very proud of being the only photographer to achieve that recognition within a 30 mile radius of her studio.  Nellie enjoys helping other photographers grow their craft through certification and serves as a PPA/CPP Liaison. She has received CPP Image Submission Judges Training and is in that process as well. Participating in professional organizations and giving of her time, is important to her.  Nellie recently joined the team of remembrance photographers with Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep. Currently Nellie is fulfilling the requirements and looking forward to earning many degrees but mostly enjoys the journey.

Believing in the power of education, Nellie rarely misses a chance to share her fervor for growing her craft and knowledge with others. Aside from teaching PPA Super Monday Classes, she also hosts private workshops at her studio. Nellie also has an Intern Program in place at her studio giving her the opportunity to mentor photographers who are ready to get serious about their craft.

Nellie thrives on the relationships photography brings. She absolutely loves the rapport with her subjects and sets out to help them look their best by feeling their best. During her years as a wedding and portrait photographer, Nellie fell into Boudoir Photography unintentionally and was so captivated by the feedback from her clients that she set out to learn more from the best in the industry and now specializes in it herself. She is quick to let you know how much she loves helping people look and feel beautiful while capturing their true essence and how wrong she thinks the old adage “Beauty is skin deep” truly is. Nellie finds beauty without regard to age, gender, size and shape and can be heard telling her prospective clients, “I’m not afraid of anything you fear to bring into my camera room.”

November Meeting – Meggan Harper, “Newborns: The Complete Workflow”

Meggan discusses her complete workflow for newborns. She will start from the initial phone call and take you all the way through to the final sale. She will cover tips and tricks to safely posing newborns, capturing sleepy smiles and photographing the poses that sell every time!

Bio
Meggan Harper has specialized in photographing newborns since the day her business opened. She has a genuine love for documenting babies within their first days of life and considers it the highest honor for parents to allow her to do so.

Her favorite quote is “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life” from Confucius. This is her mantra in the workplace. Meggan has a strong belief that if you do what you love, you will naturally excel at it, be more creative everyday, and find a way to make money doing so.

Her work has been published twice in the nationwide Parenting magazine and she currently photographs the covers for 3 local parent magazines throughout Central Florida. She has also spoken at ImagingUSA about how she has raised money for the past 4 years for Operation Smile, a PPA Charities Organization. Meggan has mentored several photographers, local or not, with an open and honest approach. She keeps no secrets and feels that the more she helps fellow photographers, the more she raises up the entire industry. She does not worry about “training her competition” because she feels that there is an abundance of work out there for all of us. Aside from the world of newborn photography, Meggan is a mother to 4 boys, an avid reader who is constantly seeking knowledge and understanding, and a music-lover. She is also a yoga enthusiast (who spends a large amount of time upside-down!).
