May 22nd Program – Level Up: One Light Made Simple with Kira Derryberry

On May 22nd, we’ll hope you join us as we welcome Kira Derryberry for her program, Level Up: One Light Made Simplesponsored by WHCC.

In this live demo program, learn how to master multiple one light set ups for studio and on location portraiture. Create dynamic images that are great for seniors, headshots, families, fashion, and more. Kira will guide you through selecting the right light modifiers for the job, learning how to see how the light falls to best flatter your  subject, and all using tools that won’t break the bank! If you’ve been an all natural light shooter until now, this is a great class to get you out of your comfort zone and into the world of creating natural looking lighting that doesn’t overwhelm. Prepare to ask questions, learn new techniques, and level up your skill set!

Kira’s Bio

KIRA DERRYBERRY, MASTER PHOTOG, CR., CPP
Kira Derryberry is a portrait photographer based in Tallahassee, FL. She’s a Master Photographer, Photographic Craftsman, Certified Professional Photographer, and a Director for the Professional Photographers of America board. Kira is an active competitor in both the state and International Print Competitions and earned silver medals in 2014 and 2015 and a Platinum medal in 2016 at IPC. Her Loan Collection Image, “The Skeptic” was featured on the March 2016 Cover of Professional Photographer Magazine along with a feature article on her work. Alongside her heavy participation in her local and state association, Kira proudly serves as a member of the board of directors for the Professional Photographers of America. Kira also shares her knowledge with her fellow photographers as a Spider Holster Ambassador and a Tether Tools Pro.

Kira got her start in photography in high school then graduated with a BA from the University of Alabama with photography as her focus. Knowing how to shoot, but not necessarily how to start a business, Kira leaned on her experience as a web designer for work, taking a job at a Tallahassee based advertising agency for 5 years before opening her studio in 2010. Since her studio opening, Kira has developed a strong client base in portraits ranging from children and families, to headshots, commercial work, and boudoir. Kira and her husband Kevin have been together since 2002, and together they have a seven year old daughter, Lucy. When not slinging a camera, she spends much of the remainder of her free time playing video games and watching bad science fiction.

When and Where?
We meet at the Ramada Inn in Mandarin (I-295 and San Jose Blvd). Social time begins at 6:30pm with announcements and meeting beginning at 7:00pm.

Members, don’t forget your 8×10-ish entry for People’s Choice. The categories are portrait and landscape. You may enter into one or both! All entries must be submitted by 6:51pm! Can’t make it to the meeting? Send your images with a friend!

January 23rd Program – Kevin Floyd – 3D Lighting: Understanding Light and Make it Work for You

IMG_6688-1Our first meeting of the year on January 23rd is with our own Kevin Floyd who will present 3D Lighting: Understanding light and how to make the light work for you. We invite you to hear from Kevin as he discusses:

  • Things you didn’t know about light, that you can use.
  • Will cover the 5 lighting patterns, short vs broad,  quality of light, Size of light source.
  • What makes light soft.
  • Baffled by baffles?
  • Light modifiers and how to make your own that DON’T look home made.
  • Efficiency of Light
  • Depth of light
  • Light and Color   NOT white balance
  • Reflection and absorption
  • Studio lighting indoors and out.
  • Garage lighting
  • Fashion Glamour lighting.
  • Props humor and stories
  • But wait there’s more…action packed and full of useful INFO.

October 27 Meeting – Dick Robertson – Lighting and Posing

We look forward to having you join us on October 27th for our October meeting as we welcome Dick Robertson back to Jacksonville! He was one of our judges for our Spring salon!

Dick will discuss his simple approach on the use of one light in creating outstanding portraits, as well as touch on the diffused value of light. Come join us as Dick will be shooting live to demonstrate the different lighting patterns used on men and women. Equally as important, he will show you the different techniques in properly posing men vs. women so you can get the most out of your portraits.

Social 30 begins at 6:30pm and the meeting will begin at 7:00pm.  Voting for our 2016 Board of Directors will be held at the beginning of the meeting.

First time guests are always welcome free of charge! Members, don’t forget your entry for People’s Choice! And, as always, we hope that you will join us at Chili’s after the meeting!
